Cursillo

The Cursillo is a specific and concrete form of the prophetic mission of the Church, along the lines of kerygma1.

The purpose of the Cursillo Movement is to make Christian Communities possible in neighborhoods, parishes, work situations and other places where people live the greater part of their lives.  The Cursillo makes it possible for anyone in the world to live a Christian life in a natural way. It is the means by which men and women are able to leaven their environments with the Gospel. (Leaders Manual)

Since it is a movement of the Church, the Cursillo Movement has the same apostolic purpose as the Church (The Fundamental Ideas of the Cursillo Movement). Pope Paul VI said, “..the Church exists to evangelize.” The Cursillo Movement provides the means to accomplish this evangelization.

The Cursillo movement focuses on assisting the baptized to identify and complete their mission on earth.  The aim of the Cursillo movement is to prepare men and women (the candidates) to go forth as apostles, and proclaim the Gospel.  It provides the candidates with the training and the tools needed; Group Reunion, Ultreya and Leaders School,  the tools needed to sustain their mission on earth.

The Cursillo Weekend begins on Thursday night when the candidates come together to spend three days getting know each other and God better. The weekend concludes on Sunday.

1)  The Greek word kerygma was used more than 70 times in the New Testament to mean the jubilant and appealing announcement of the saving events accomplished by Jesus).
